Communities must jealously guard and preserve their natural environments as it is key to their survival.
The Minister of State for Mashonaland East, Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri made the passionate plea during a certification of training the trainers community environment monitors at Mahusekwa growth point in Marondera.
Statistics on veld fires might have remained gloomy but the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) has maintained its capacity building drive with 87 people from Marondera West constituency being certified after completing an environmental monitoring course.
Retired Brigadier General Mutinhiri who was the guest of honour at the event applauded EMA’s community project and challenged the participants to work towards increased preservation of environments.
The trained villagers promised to spread the awareness message in their respective communities.
The training is being done in partnership with Agritex and Forestry Commission.
So far it has covered Chikomba West and Marondera West and plans are underway to take the project to other areas in the province.
