In the face of increasing non-communicable diseases which require constant checkups it is imperative that more satellite clinics be established in residential areas to address public health needs of the local people.
Satellite clinics play an important role in providing health care within various communities and suburbs especially for low income earners and the City of Harare said it is important to have many such facilities.
Speaking at the reopening of Mt Pleasant Clinic, City Health Department district officer Dr Collel Madembo said it is also the duty of local authorities to provide proper healthcare to the communities.
Dr Madembo said; “As we take responsibility of public health needs of our satellite local people, it is important that we provide proper health care for to the communities”.
Harare Mayor, Councillor Bernard Manyenyeni said the facility is poised to offer enhanced services.
“It is our hope that the clinic will be able to provide services like prostate and cervical cancer screening among other services,” noted Councillor Manyenyeni.
The facility which has been closed for more than 7 months caters for a population of more than 29 000.
