Associations in every industry have been challenged to bid for international conferences as hosting such prestigious events come with a number of incentives.
In a seminar held by the Association of Rural District Councils of Zimbabwe (ARDCZ) at a local hotel in Bulawayo, chief executive officers and directors were urged to be courageous and offer to host regional and continental events.
The Executive Director for the National Convention Bureau at Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Ms Tesa Chikaponya said the country will benefit infrastructural uplift for hosting such events.
“Whatever industry you are in you belong to a certain association, we want you to bid for regional conferences, Africa continental conferences. Don’t be afraid of volunteering to bid for the next conference because it brings values to any destination and it also helps us in terms of destination image building,” she said.
Ms Chikaponya also encouraged RDCs to attend shows like Sanganai/Hlanganani Expo, Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, Harare Agricultural Shows and others to sell their products and services.
One of the workshop attendants Nkayi RDC Chief Executive Officer Mr Zimbabwe Ndlovu said they have embraced the challenge and will increase their visibility in various exhibition forums and market their products and services.
“We are encouraged and we will ensure that we showcase our products and services wherever we can. We really feel Sanganai/Hlanganani is a good platform to market RDCs,” he said.
Many believe that there is untapped potential of economic development in the RDCs which can be unlocked if they engage new resources mobilisation strategies.
