Southlea Park residents in Harare have appealed to government to construct schools in the area saying their children are travelling long distances to access education.
Southlea Park is one of the recently established suburbs in Harare which accommodates thousands of families.
The area has no proper schools which prompted residents to appeal to government to construct schools as their children are travelling long distances to learning institutions, while others end up sending children to make shift schools.
This came out during the Meet the People rally held in Southlea Park where the member of the house of assembly for the constituency, Cde Shadreck Mashayamombe presented a number of concerns which include poor road network, no running water and no electricity in some parts of the suburb to the visiting Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Cde Nyasha Chikwnya.
In response, Cde Chikwinya expressed gratitude to Harare South constituency as it is one of the Zanu PF strongholds which has been voting for the ruling party in previous elections and promised to deliver the raised concerns to the relevant ministries.
She however challenged women to take advantage of the upcoming women’s bank saying gone are the days when women relied on men for everything.
Minister Chikwinya urged women to complement their spouses’ work by venturing into self sustaining projects.
Zanu PF has started holding Meet the People rallies where government officials are meeting the electorate in preparation for the 2018 harmonised elections.
