A call has been made for the development of Mhandamabwe, which is an important getway to Masvingo, the Midlands and Matabeleland province, as well as other towns and cities.

Sandwiched between mining areas, Mhandamabwe lies at strategic crossroads.

Regionally, it is the gateway to countries such as Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa, but to date this doesn’t strike many people.

Councillor Cleopas Magwizi of ward 6 in the area said more could be realised economically if the area gets the attention it deserves.

Mhandamahwe is an important transport stopover for cross border trucks and this has created a local economy within this place.

Headman Mandlangove and a local investor, Mr Robert Mhuri, who is building a shopping complex under the Mhuri family consortium, said the all important road which is the gateway to the Beitbridge deserves urgent attention.

Key regional places such as Maputo, Cape Town and Mombasa grew as trade stopovers and as such, the people of Mhandamahwe also have big dreams.

The development of residential housing is also growing fast, so are other trading malls and shops.
