The early elimination of the Young Warriors from the Mopani U-20 COSAFA Cup in Namibia has raised calls on the need for ZIFA to direct a lot of energy towards junior development for the good of Zimbabwean football.

The Young Warriors finished second to Lesotho in their group and in the process failed to progress to the semi-finals of the regional tournament.

Veteran football administrator, Chris Sambo said the country is getting it wrong by not prioritising junior football development.

Football analysts central to issues of football development believe the young warriors were going to post a better show had they began camp on time.

The Young Warriors were not clinical upfront, managing to score a single goal through Dynamos youngster, King Nasama when they beat Angola 1 nil.

Zimbabwe’s other two group matches ended in nil-all draws against Lesotho and Namibia.

To their credit, the team did not concede a goal and lost the chance to progress due to an inferior goal difference to Lesotho, which also finished on 5 points.
