Policy makers have been challenged to develop policies that will make the country’s living conditions more conducive for older persons.
This emerged at the senior citizens anniversary celebrations held at Harare Children’s Home.
Older people often have more complex needs compared with younger adults due to physical illness and increased social needs.
Health care costs, diseases, financial security, abuse or neglect are some of the challenges senior citizens continue to face in their lives.
It is against the background of various challenges faced by the elderly that a local organisation Power of Touch, is assisting senior citizens aged 55 years and above in Zimbabwe to continue getting all the services from various service providers at a discount.
Speaking on the sidelines of celebrations for the elderly, managing director Power of Touch institution, Mr Edgar Chandiwana called for concerted efforts to improve the welfare of senior citizens.
Some of the elderly people who spoke to ZBC News applauded the founder of Power of Touch institution Mrs Beatrice Sithole for helping them access basic services at a discount.
There are several homes for the elderly in the country, but most of them find it difficult to offer quality services to the elderly due to inadequate resources.
