Children of veterans of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle are calling on authorities to declare the 1966 Chinhoyi battle zone a heritage site.
Scores of some war veterans children visited the site of the 1966 Chinhoyi battle where the first shots of the second Chimurenga were fired on 28 April.
The battle pitied seven gallant sons of the soil against Rhodesian forces.
Children of veterans of Zimbabwe liberation struggle said they are disheartened that the site has to date nothing to show for all the fame and hype associated with the battle.
Living hero of the armed struggle, Cde Cornilius Muwoni said quite a lot needs to be done at the Chinhoyi battle site in order to give the famous Chinhoyi seven heroes the honour they deserve while young brother to one of the seven heroes Mr Johannes Chingozha is of the opinion that families of the freedom fighters need some form of recognition bestowed.
The seven heroes associated with the Chinhoyi battle are Chubby Savanhu, Chris Chatambudza, Godfrey Dube, Godwin Manyerenyere, Simon Chin’ozha, David Guzuzu and Arthur Maramba.
