The Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial executive council has passed a resolution calling on the party to hold an extra ordinary congress in December.
The resolution to call for an extraordinary congress was reached at by the provincial executive council (PEC) prior to the convening of a provincial coordinating committee (PCC) meeting.
The council also endorsed the candidature of Cde Robert Mugabe as the party’s Presidential candidate in next year’s harmonised election.
The resolutions were announced by party provincial chairman Cde Ephraim Chengeta, with Dr Ignatius Chombo the national party secretary for administration explaining the reasons behind the move.
Women’s League national secretary for finance, Cde Caroline Mugabe and Central Committee member, Cde Peter Haritatoes said the proposed extraordinary congress will strengthen the party ahead of next year’s elections.
Meanwhile, newly appointed Minister of State for Mashonaland West, Cde Webster Shamu has pledged to work towards steering service delivery in the province.
At the other hand, Zanu PF Matabeleland South provincial coordinating committee has endorsed a decision made by the provincial executive council (PEC) for the ruling party to hold an extra -ordinary congress in December.
The decision was made this Saturday (today) at the Zanu PF provincial headquarters in Gwanda.
The party’s provincial chairman, Cde Rabeleani Choene told the ZBC News that the resolutions made by the PEC were later endorsed by the provincial PCC.
“The meeting agreed the congress is necessary as it will bring all members together, will see the endorsement of President Robert Mugabe, it will also assist in ironing out key issues and problems associated with the biometric voter registration process,” he said.
In the meeting, Zanu PF Politburo member and Minister of State Security, Cde Kembo Mohadi commended the province for outlining concrete reasons for an elective congress.
Earlier the Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Cde Simon Khaya-Moyo had explained when a congress is deemed necessary according to the party constitution.
Matabeleland South has already made significant strides in preparing for the 17th National People’s Conference which will host the event next year, if an elective congress is convened this year.
Also, the Zanu PF Bulawayo Province has called for the revolutionary party to have a special December congress saying it is the only way the party can come out of internal squabbles while endorsing President Robert Mugabe as the party’s sole Presidential candidate for 2018 general elections.
The decision for the party to have a special congress was reached at the revolutionary party’s provincial headquarters after house of assembly member for Pumula, Cde Godfrey Malaba moved a motion that internal party fissures can only be mended by a special congress while the party’s provincial chairperson, Cde Dennis Ndlovu confirmed the PCC’s resolution.
The chairperson of the Presidential Youth Interface coordinating committee, Cde Absolom Sikhosana took the opportunity to appraise the province that preparations for the event are progressing smoothly.
The ninth Presidential Youth Interface rally will be held at White City Stadium at a date to be advised before the final rally to be held in Harare.
