Hotels in Bulawayo recorded brisk business this festive season with players in the industry hailing the new dispensation for dealing with police road blocks that had in the past frustrated travelers.

Bulawayo has been alive this festive season with a number of tourists visiting the city, while hoteliers enjoyed good business as people booked for wedding conferences, parties and other activities associated with the period.

School of Hospitality and Tourism Director, Mr Innocent Nezungayi, who is in charge of the hotels run by the school, said the reduction of police roadblocks by the country’s new establishment ensured a boom in domestic tourism this festive season.

A hotelier, Mr Josphat Kahwema said while the new establishment has shown zeal in improving the way the country does business, there is need to revise the import tax for tourism products to be competitive in the region and beyond.

The government recently partnered the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in a project that targets school leavers in skills development in the industry.
