SOS Children’s Village and Care Givers from Mabutweni, Iminyela, Pelandaba, Lobengula and Njube in Bulawayo took part in a seminar that sought to interrogate and find solutions to the menace of drugs and substance abuse.

Organisers at the seminar agreed that the society should unite in the fight against substance and drug abuse as most children are dropping out of school, while other members opt not to report those selling the drugs for fear of victimisation.

A UN 2016 World Drug Report estimated that 1 in 20 adults, or a quarter of a billion people between the ages of 15 and 64 years, used at least one drug in 2014, while 29 million people suffer from drug use disorders and that drug abuse exerts more than US$740 billion annually in costs related to crime, lost work productivity and health care.
