A local community based choral group is preparing for the forthcoming national choral festival set for Harare this month.

It was a night of song and vocal artistry as Bulawayo Choristers hosted a fundraising concert as they prepare for this year’s National Choral Festival set for Harare on the 16th of September.

The night saw acts by Lower Gweru-based Combined Messengers, Precious Melodies and a host of soloists who came to support Bulawayo Choristers, a choir formed in 2015.

Choir co-director, Dennis Kapiya said despite numerous challenges, they expect to put up a polished performance at the nationals.

The choir’s Founding Director, Busani Nkomo said the choir’s formation was a way of contributing to the musical scene, while taking the youths off the streets.

An excellent performance at the national finals will see the choir representing the country at the regional finals set for South Africa on the 9th of December where choirs from South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland, Botswana and Zimbabwe will square off.

During their last appearances at the national finals, Bulawayo Choristers came out 7th in 2015 and 4th last year.
