A late penalty earned Bulawayo Chiefs a 2-1 victory over Mushowani Stars at the giant National Sports Stadium this afternoon (Sunday).
The visitors were quick off the blocks with an 18th minute strike by Farai Matare steering Bulawayo Chiefs into a 1-0 lead.
With the game headed for the break Mushowani Stars drew level 7 minutes before half time courtesy of Sylon Chikwerengwe who capitalised on some sloppy defending before firing home.
In the second half Mushowani sought to double the advantage with Bulawayo Chiefs saved by some alert goalkeeping just before the hour mark.
Mushowani could have grabbed a goal in the 74th minute but Evans Katema shot straight at David Bizabani in goals for the visitors.
Mushowani were made to rue the missed chances when Bulawayo Chiefs were handed a penalty right at the death.
Hussein Zvakavapano took responsibility from the spot as Bulawayo Chiefs registered a vital win which left head coach Joseph Sibindi a happy man.
In other encounters, Dynamos and Manica Diamonds played out a goalless draw at Rufaro Stadium with Triangle edging Hwange 2-1 at the Colliery.
Black Rhinos moved to within a point of log leaders Chicken Inn following a 2-0 victory over TelOne.
