The Bulawayo Athletics Board has stepped up preparations for the upcoming National Youth Games by staging an assessment event to gauge the province’s preparedness.

The White City Stadium was the venue for an event dubbed the Bulawayo cadets, youths, juniors and seniors track and field championships, where provincial coaches who include Benson Mwanza, Caron Chashamba, Brenda Banda and Tiiso Ncube assessed several athletes with potential to make the team for the National Youth Games.

Bulawayo Athletics Board Chairman, Manuel Mpofu said the event is key in ensuring that only the best athletes will be selected for the National Youth Games finals

Bulawayo province will bank on athletes such as Dumo Mkhwananzi, who earlier in the year represented the country at the World Cross Country Championships in Uganda as well as Inter-Provincial Championships silver medalist, Kevin Dube.

Potential athletes have been training every Tuesday and Saturday at the White City Stadium.
