Zanu PF hopes to clinch the two Norton council seats in by-elections set for this Saturday.

The by-elections will see Zanu PF’s Tinotenda Mafusire locking horns with independent candidate Eager Takawira and Melissa Muzuva of NCA in ward 11, while Flavia Charumbira (Zanu PF) will battle it out with Francis Deka, an independent candidate.

The ruling party intensified its campaign in the two wards with party Secretary for Administration, Dr Ignatius Chombo telling the electorate to take this opportunity to correct past mistakes which saw voters casting ballots in favour of the MDC which he said has run down urban local authorities.

With the MDC not fielded candidates in the by-elections, Dr Chombo described the party as being in tatters and failing to bring meaningful development as its councilors are busy lining their pockets.

Zanu PF had to intervene in Norton by drilling boreholes in wards 1 and 11 to alleviate water shortage challenges.

The party also assisted in the electrification of new stands in the CABS section in ward 11.

Dr Chombo dispelled assertions that the ruling party used government resources to buy groceries for the under-privileged families in the two wards, saying the party was given resources by some mining firms operating within Norton.

Meanwhile, Zanu PF has condemned acts of violence committed on a party supporter recently by members aligned to ward 11’s independent candidate.

The Zanu PF supporter was putting on party regalia when he was assaulted, according to Dr Chombo.
