The Bulawayo Volleyball Association (BVA) will host the inaugural beach volleyball series by a province which is expected to showcase some of the best talent from the City of Kings.
The two-day event slated for Masotsha High School which is one of the few facilities that have beach volleyball courts will see participants squaring off in women, men and mixed categories.
Some of those expected to grace the occasion include top performers like the NASH Under 19 provincial champions duo of Andile Moyo and Methembe Simango as well as the mixed seasoned campaigners in Conrad Kupara and Khanyile Dhlamini.
BVA chairman William Manzviro described the tournament as part of efforts by his organisation to promote the sport of volleyball.
“The concept of the BVA is to try and promote volleyball of all forms. We are looking at sitting volleyball, the conventional volleyball which is 6-aside and beach volleyball. We started with a tournament in May which was for fun. Now we are doing a series which is quite a competitive format and we are expecting to grow this next year because this is the first of its kind,” said Manzviro.
Expectations from the organisers are that the tournament can be grown to have more teams from NASH participating.
It was also revealed that BVA was currently trying to secure partnerships that would ensure bigger sets of beach volleyball courts can be constructed.
Of late Zimbabwe has not been taking part in competitive events with Mozambique and South Africa among some of those that have been posting good results in the continent.
