As the 2018 tobacco season reaches its peak, buyers have hailed the quality of the golden leaf being delivered at auction floors by farmers, a development that has seen the prices going up.

In comparison to the previous years, this year has witnessed a remarkable difference with a huge improvement on the quality of tobacco which has been credited to the experience and support farmers are getting.

Merchants at Premier Tobacco expressed so much confidence in the future of the farmers and the industry which contributes to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Of late, farmers have been given fair prices for their product, thereby boosting their confidence for the next season,” said Hilda Matanga, the Premier Tobacco Marketing Manager.

This year’s tobacco season has come at a time when the government has vowed to support the agricultural sector in restoration of the country’s bread basket status.
