Social football teams are key in creating a fertile base for talent identification for professional leagues and the football mother body must exploit these to grow the sport countrywide.
ZIFA district administrator for Chipinge and Chimanimani, Innocent Mlilo who also sponsors the Innocent Mlilo Tournament established in 2005 said football development in Chipinge and Chimanimani districts like in other places in the country is being affected by lack of sponsorship.
Mlilo who is also a businessman implored the business community to consider joining hands towards supporting social soccer teams to broaden division league selection base as his tournament has produced players who have made it into the premier league such as Rodrick Mhlanga, Blessing Sabula, Moses Gutu, Physio Madhanzi and Tembikosi Nkomo among others.
Mlilo said he is on an ambitious move to promote and grow the social league as part of strategies to turn Chipinge into a renowned football district like places such as Zvishavane highlighting such a feat can be achieved if more sponsors come on board.
Chipinge lacks sporting facilities not only in respect of football but in a number of sporting disciplines that include hockey, swimming, tennis, boxing and golf among others and this has affected the development of sport in the district.
