The cabinet sub-committee on state funerals and monuments gathered in the capital to finalise preparations for the burial of veteran nationalist and Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial chair Professor Callistus Ndlovu who was declared a national hero.
Professor Ndlovu succumbed to pancreatic cancer in South Africa and was unanimously declared a national hero by the Politburo.
The cabinet sub-committee on state funerals and monuments held a meeting where all logistical aspects for the burial of Professor Ndlovu were discussed and finalised.
Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Mr Melusi Matshiya who is the sub-committee chair said that the meeting was meant to prepare for the burial of the gallant son of soil at the National Heroes Acre without any glitches.
The sub-committee comprises officials from various ministries including Health and Child Care, Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, as well as ZESA Holdings and the contracted funeral parlour.
The body of the late Professor Ndlovu is expected to be airlifted from South Africa to Bulawayo on Monday before its burial at the National Heroes Acre at a date to be announced.
