In a chilling tale that left residents of Bulawayo’s Pumula South suburb in a state of shock, a 42-year-old woman allegedly killed her 4-year-old niece before burying her at a house she was renting.

It is alleged that Gladys Sibanda, who is now in police custody assisting the security details with investigations, killed little Thandeka Moyo sometime in November last year by smashing her head to the wall after strangling her.

It is understood that she created numerous incoherent stories on the whereabouts of Thandeka to her neighbours and family members.

She was arrested as investigations on the whereabouts of the girl intensified leading to her to direct the police to where she had buried the remains.

After the act, Sibanda is alleged to have moved from the place and brought in Mrs Thembelani Bhebhe who only learnt of the incident after the police brought Sibanda to identify where she had buried the little girl.

Witnesses, who spoke to the ZBC News revealed that Sibanda was always abusive to the late Thandeka as she would beat her and most often deny her food while taking good care of her four children.

The act brings to attention the need for parents to leave their children with trustworthy individuals as cases of abuse have been on the increase.
