The Scripture Union Club together with Siyanda Trust has partnered the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to target youths in Bulawayo on a campaign against drug and alcohol abuse through sport and other educational awareness activities.
The world is facing a serious threat of future leaders as youths from across the globe are indulging in drugs and alcohol abuse with most of them dropping out of school, while others die at very young age after contracting diseases under the influence of intoxicating substances.
Bulawayo has not been spared by the global phenomenon and the Scripture Union Club is alarmed by the increase in abuse of such substances at schools hence the need to act by engaging the youths in the City of Kings says the club’s field officer Mr Tyson Lungs.
The Minister of War Veterans, War Collaborators, Ex Political Detainees and Restrictees, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube who officiated at the inaugural combined drug abuse educational awareness campaign said it is the duty of every Zimbabwean to ensure that the society desists from alcohol and drug abuse.
The awareness exercise saw various youths grouping in teams to play soccer and athletics with winners walking away with soccer kits, books and a trophy donated by Retired Colonel Dube.
