The Bubi Small Scale Gold Miners Processing Center that was commissioned by Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga is shaping up with the installation of machinery nearing completion.
A visit to the project site by the ZBC News showed that the installation of hummer mills and crushers is almost complete in all the units while the electrification plant is ready to take off.
The model project of a gold processing center was financed by the Zimbabwe Mining Development Company (ZMDC) and the project is expected to be handed over to more than 300 small scale miners in Bubi.
Chairman of the Bubi Small Scale Miners Association, Mr Sqeduthando Ncube said the project will see the miners initially owning 40 percent of the project and on full payment of the loan the project will be ceded over to them for full beneficiation.
“The bigger benefit on this project is that after accessing free gold, we also have a 40 percent stake on the chemical extraction of the mineral and once the payment of the loan has been completed we then take over the full operations of the plant because it is our plant and we must realise the full benefits,” he said.
National Assembly member for Bubi Cde Sonny Mguni said in addition to the new plant there are plans to establish a jewelry plant in Bubi that produces a variety of products after adding value on the mineral.
“We have a vision as Bubi to establish a jewelry plant here for value addition so that we are part of the value chain in the gold sector to ensure that the economy of Bubi is anchored on gold and all the local mining companies will be a part of this process,” Cde Mguni said.
Gold remains a major earner of foreign currency in the country and the operation of small scale gold miners need support in terms of resources as the country aims at getting re-admission to the London bullion market, the most lucrative market for the yellow metal.
