The Zimbabwe Judo Association is set to honour former president Brian Warren by hosting a judo tournament on the 25th of this month.

Considered as the Father of Zimbabwean Judo, Warren passed away in 2015 and a tournament to pay tribute to him will see top judokas competing in the inaugural Brian Warren judo event.

As a way of inculcating the spirit of inclusiveness judo is now targeting the visually impaired and people with special needs.

The Judo Association is trying to improve the sport in line with international standards.

At the weekend the association held a technical course aimed at equipping officials ahead of the national tournament.

Currently the sport is using a one mat format and the Brian Warren tournament will mark the introduction of the two-mat format which allows for two fights to be held at the same time.
