The Zimbabwe senior women’s netball team, the Gems, registered their first ever World Cup win beating Asian champions Sri Lanka 79-49 at the M & S Bank Arena in Liverpool England this afternoon, kicking off what could be a thrilling journey.

The Gems are in group ‘A’ along with reigning champions Australia and Northern Ireland, and one of the four African teams at the tournament together with Malawi, Uganda and South Africa.

In the other group ‘A’ game between Australia and Northern Ireland, the match ended 88-24 in favour of the Australia Diamonds.
