The Botswana government has responded to the clarion call by Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko to come to the aid of Tsholotsho flood victims by donating building material.

The Botswana government has donated 1500 roofing sheets, 200 door frames and brick force wire worth thousands of dollars.

Speaking during the handover of the donation, Botswana ambassador to Zimbabwe Lieutenant General Louis Mtswanhego said following the appeal by Vice President Mphoko, his government responded to assist Zimbabweans in Tsholotsho who were the worst affected by Cyclone Dineo floods in the SADC region.

He said relations between the two sister republics which date back to the Umvukela/Chimurenga era must be cemented and nurtured at all times, given the cultural and socio-economic relations of citizens of the two republics.

Accepting the humanitarian gesture, the Minister of State for Matabeleland North province Cde Cain Mathema echoed the same sentiments saying the two countries need to enhance economic relations.

The Botswana donation will kick-start infrastructure development at the new sites where houses, ablution facilities, schools and a clinic have to be built.
