The Zimbabwe senior national soccer team, the Warriors lost 1-nil to Botswana in a match that was played at the National Sport Stadium in Harare as part of Independence celebrations.

Botswana scored in the first half held on to lift the inaugural President’s Cup.

The match concluded the country’s 38th independence celebrations, the first in the new political dispensation.

An Independence Cup contested by local football clubs normally accompanies the national independence celebrations but President Emmerson Mnangagwa has this year changed the tradition by inviting a Botswana national team to play the Warriors in what has been rebranded President’s Cup.
