bomb car.jpgAt least 10 people have been killed and several others injured following a mortar bomb explosion at a mosque in Somali’s capital, Mogadishu.

Reports say the bomb exploded as pro-government forces were battling radical Islamist guerillas in the city.

Meanwhile, United Nations aid workers have called for the release of supplies which were looted by the Islamist militants, saying it might hinder their humanitarian work in the capital.

Heavy fighting in Somalia has killed more than 250 people and about 120 000 others were displaced in the latest upsurge of violence which erupted last month.

Somalia has not had an effective national government since 1991 and some four million people need food aid and shelter.
