The Zimbabwe Builders and Contractors Association has lamented the sprouting of bogus construction companies that are eying jobs under the Beitbridge-Harare highway project.
The association’s president, Engineer Ransom Nherera said there is a sudden increase of bogus construction companies registering with their organisation as they target benefitting from projects under the multi-million dollar dualisation project of the Beitbridge-Harare highway.
Engineer Nherera was addressing delegates at the builders’ conference in Gweru.
“If phony companies are allowed to register and operate under the banner of the construction industry, it might compromise the reputation of local construction companies as most of these new players lack expertise,” he said.
The dualisation project of the Beitbridge-Harare highway, where an estimated US$1 billion has been invested, has a lot of opportunities expected to be created through the project including 300 000 jobs for both skilled and semi-skilled people.
Under the dualisation project, 40 percent of the value of the road will go to local companies who will be contracted.
