tony blair.jpgLocal political analysts have laughed off the Liberty Medal award given to former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair for his role in global conflict resolutions.

The analysts say Tony Blair took Britain into the ill-fated conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The wars have claimed more than a million civilian lives.

Blair was recently honoured in America with a medal, £64 000 prize and a banquet, for ‘bringing liberty to people around the world’ and for his services to peace.

Such is the political life of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair whom local political analyst Dr Kenneth Manungo said will be remembered for almost destroying the Zimbabwean people’s livelihood.

Another analyst, Dr Tafataona Mahoso said there is no way in which Blair’s legacy can be aligned to global peace initiatives considering the wars that he engaged in, which have claimed millions of civilian lives. He said at best, Blair is a war criminal.

With the values of freedom, liberty and justice aligned to the medal awarded to the British Prime Minister, a lot of questions have been asked over whether the West has redefined what these values are.

Blair’s war records remain engraved upon the history of Iraq and Afghanistan where millions have died from unjustified military expeditions.
