biti tendai1.jpgFinance minister Tendai Biti who was involved in a road accident yesterday is said to be in a stable condition.

The accident occurred about 8 km outside Chegutu town near Mupfure River along the Bulawayo Harare Highway.

Police said a Toyota Hilux Vigo which was driven by Mr. Biti was involved in a side-swipe with a Chegutu bound haulage truck.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri said Minister Biti was traveling alone towards Harare at the time and he was not seriously injured.

MDC-T Spokesperson Nelson Chamisa confirmed that Minister Biti is in a stable condition but could not divulge the Finance minister’s whereabouts.

When ZBC News arrived in Chegutu the Haulage truck was leaving the police station after its inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Department.

Information of where the Minister was coming from and why he was driving himself at the time of the accident was not immediately available.

Minister Biti is reported to have been involved in another accident with his official Mercedes Benz recently in which he was driving himself.

However it is government policy that a cabinet minister should be chauffer driven and accompanied by an aid decamp while on or off government duty.
