MDC Alliance co-principal, Tendai Biti appeared before Harare magistrate, Mr Francis Mapfumo today and was granted a $5 000 bail.

Biti is facing charges of contravening Section 36 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act (Chapter 9:23), public violence and also contravening Section 66(a)(1) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) which prohibits unofficial or false declaration of election results.

As part of his bail conditions, Biti was ordered to report twice a day to CID Law and Order and directed to surrender title deeds to his Chisipite house.

He was also ordered not to hold any press conference or political rally.

One of Biti’s lawyers, Denford Haliman said there will be another court hearing tomorrow at where the defence will raise technicalities regarding circumstances in which he was arrested.
