Congratulatory messages to President Robert Mugabe on the occasion of his 93rd birthday continue to pour in with Zimbabwean students studying in China paying tribute to the president for being a champion of education and youth empowerment.
Since the launch of the presidential scholarship programme in 1995 to assist academically gifted but underprivileged children in Zimbabwe, thousands of students have been sent to study in South Africa and China, among other countries.
Some of the students who are studying in China sent their congratulatory messages to President Mugabe thanking him for his unwavering commitment to the advancement of education.
The students who are adapting to the Chinese way of life and learning a new language are determined to make their benefactor, Cde Mugabe proud.
President Mugabe is credited for introducing the education for all policy when the country attained independence.
The policy ushered in a massive expansion in pupil enrolment and the expansion of teacher education facilities through programmes like Morgan Zintec, among others.
