One student from Bernard Mizeki College in Marondera has died in what was first suspected to be a case of cholera.
10 more students reportedly complained of stomach ailments before their colleague’s death this morning, leading people to suspect a cholera outbreak.
Mashonaland East Provincial Medical Director Dr Simukai Zizhou confirmed the death of the student, but ruled out cholera as the cause.
Mr Zizhou added that after investigations by team from the Ministry of Health and Child Care and doctors, symptoms shown by the student before he died are not related to the disease.
He said the ministry will continue monitoring the situation.
