Beitbridge district has commissioned its first ever senior science laboratory in the district at Zezani High School.
Lack of such facilities at different schools in Beitbridge has been blamed for poor performance by schools in this part of Matabeleland South Province.
With the new $240 000 science laboratory now opened, there is anticipation of better results as well as the churning out of learners relevant to national economic demands.
“We want you to learn and be productive for the nation. After completing studies, we want all you learners to be involved in many innovations, create industries and opportunities,” said Dr Ngoni Moyo, the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic College Principal.
The school head, Mrs Josephine Siziba said they sacrificed a lot for the dream to be realised at one of the oldest Lutheran church institutions in the country.
“We have come a long way, but we had to work hard to realise this dream,” she said.
Beitbridge District Administrator, Mrs Kelibone Ndou said the new science laboratory is an important milestone in providing education for children in the area.
The new senior science laboratory will cater for about 500 children enrolled at the school.
Being the first of its kind in the district, there is optimism that more children will get an opportunity to learn and excel in science subjects.
