Behaviour and mindset change towards environmental issues is the only way to creating a clean and safe environment, a government minister has said.
Environment problems have increased over the years despite the efforts by the government to reduce these challenges that include climate change, biodiversity loss, illegal waste dumping, deforestation, poaching and veld fires among others.
Speaking during the Green Valentine dinner held in the capital on Friday, Environment, Water and Climate Minister Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri said government is working with stakeholders to ensure the reduction of environmental challenges through awareness on behaviour change.
Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province Cde Miriam Chikukwa called for citizen participation in the creation of a clean and safe environment.
Meanwhile, a new innovation hub titled the Eco Hub is set to be developed in Mutare, Manicaland Province aimed at achieving environmental sustainability through building generations of environmentally conscious youths and children.
The Green Valentine is an annual event celebrated to encourage the love for environment and inspire people to plant trees on Valentines’ Day.
This year’s event was running under the theme, “Creating a Lasting Legacy” and was meant to raise funds for the development of the Eco Hub.
