Mutare Mayor, Councilor Blessing Tandi has encouraged the city’s newly selected junior councilors to work towards the development of the city.

Addressing the successful candidates, Councillor Tandi said the junior council has a mandate to serve their respective wards to ensure that youths are heard and action is taken to improve their lives.

“Congratulations on your selection as junior councilors. Being a leader is not an easy task but we say failure was not an option do. So be brave enough to take challenges because you are the future leaders. Do not hesitate to challenge your counterparts so that you come up with the best solutions to problems,” he said.

“We expect you to challenge us as fellow councilors. Work towards ending child abuse and gender based violence in your communities. You also have to work on environmental issues so that we have a clean city. Together we will make the city shine again,” he added.

The junior councillors are 19 students in forms three to five from different secondary schools in the city.

They will serve one year in office.

The judges included other young people from organisations that deal with children’s issues.
