raisdon baya.jpgBulawayo based award winning playwright and director, Raisedon Baya returns to Harare with the play, ‘The Two Wives of John Mambo.’

The play, which premiered at Theatre in the Park this Tuesday, is an epic poem that makes its way on the stage with an incredible cast.

The star studded play was written and directed by Raisedon Baya and produced by Daves Guzha of Rooftop Promotions.

The cast features the crème de la crème of Zimbabwean theatre including award winners: Tinopona Katsande, Eunice Tava, Evangelista Mwatse and Michael Kudakwashe.

Spiced by Baya’s poignant observations on everyday life, it resonates with satire and drama.

A prominent poet, Michael Kudakwashe as John Mambo deserts his wife and children to commit bigamy with another woman Laura played by Tinopona Katsande.

Years later, frustrated and angry, he lies dying ravaged by a mysterious disease.

His first wife Mai Netsai played by Eunice Tava pays him a visit at his death bed only to come face to face with the other woman.

The two women take the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride into the depths of their hearts as they fight over the ailing husband.

Guest speaker at the opening of the play, Advocate Eric Matinenga said theatre is an important tool to tackle issues on humanity and its time people take it seriously and promote its growth.

It is a play of courage, love, and suffering told through poetry, drama and music.

The play ultimately tells of how published artists die poor and frustrated.

The production runs till the 5th of next month and is supported by Hivos and the Norwegian Embassy.
