Local authorities will next month converge in Bindura for a sporting extravaganza featuring different sports codes.
The coming in of the games follow demands enunciated in the country’s sports policy set out by the Ministry of Sport and Recreation.
Bindura will roar into life with the first ever local authorities’ games festival set for the 28th of September.
The municipalities will compete in various sports code including chess, swimming, darts, netball, tug of war, soccer and netball among other disciplines.
The Ministry of Sport and Recreation is hoping to ride on such events for the refurbishment and maintenance of sport facilities given the fact that the games will be held on a rotational basis.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Recreation, Dr Benson Martin Dube said his ministry has already begun a nationwide tour inspecting sports facilities and encouraging local authorities to spruce them up.
Following his tour of Rusape, the local authority has since engaged a contractor to refurbish the swimming pool which has been lying idle.
