basketball.jpgThe basketball fraternity has hailed the Harare Basketball Association’s decision to end a conflict that had resulted in a split within the HBA.

An air of excitement has gripped Harare’s basketball fraternity following the merger of two warring factions whose differences were threatening to derail the sport.

Basketball Union of Zimbabwe Athletes Commission chairman, Shingai Magede and Varsity Leopards coach Spencer Nyamadzawo expressed pleasure at the development saying it will help assist in the growth of basketball in the country.

Since 2009, boardroom wrangles had drawn back the progress of the Harare Basketball League.

Gilchrist Mageza led one faction while Rodrick Takawira assumed power in another faction resulting in the split of the Harare Basketball Association.

The Harare Basketball League is however expected to commence in two weeks with “A” league men’s and women’s teams having a total of sixteen teams in each category.

Gilchrist Mageza will assume the post of President, while Charmaine Chamboko is the Secretary General.

Forbes Chiva will be the Competitions Director while Andrew Chitauro will fill in the post of technical director.
