The High Court has been applauded for coming up with a land mark ruling that outlawed corporal punishment on children.

The imposition of corporal punishment is regarded as degrading and hardening children at the expense of disciplining them.

A social worker Mr Musekiwa Makwanya says parents must come up with better ways of disciplining their children without harming them.

Mr Makwanya is of the opinion that people are relying on old teachings of the Old Testament which perpetuate the beating of children without taking into account the new developments that are occurring in nations.

It has been argued that corporal punishment has never achieved the desired goals but instead some parents and guardians have ended up killing children in the process.

It is also difficult to measure the minimum beating that can be imposed on minors, especially by an angry person.
