The 4th edition of BancABC Sup8r Knockout competition was launched last night in Harare at a ceremony attended by major stakeholders.
The launch was attended by all the major stakeholders including sponsors club representatives, the Premier Soccer League and the media.
PSL Chairman, Twine Phiri, in a speech by PSL CEO, Kenny Ndebele, implored the participating clubs, players, coaches, referees and spectators to strive to play fairly.
BancABC Group CEO, Douglas Munatsi said the competition began in 2008 and continues to play a key role in the development of football in Zimbabwe.
This year’s competition has been varied to provide more excitement.
The top four teams from the 2010 season were seeded while the other four teams were fixtured by public drawing.
The competition will have no replays if the teams are deadlocked after 90 minutes but will go straight to penalties.
As part of efforts to develop the game and attract more fans, the quarter-final matches will be played in cities which do not have Premier Soccer League clubs and this outreach programme will see towns such as Chiredzi, Kwekwe and Mutare hosting matches.
The competition this year will prove to be exciting as the draw was also conducted at the launch ceremony and winners will walk away with $50 000.
