The civil servants, who have been earning paltry salaries for far too long, feel betrayed by the Finance Minister’s latest stunt of awarding ministers a 200% salary increase when he has continued to ignore their plight.

Ambassador Khaya Moyo said Biti is taking advantage of the civil servants’ patience and patriotism and he has to explain why he is not improving their salaries when the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Cde Robert Mugabe, is on record for saying the money that is coming from diamonds should go towards meeting civil servants salaries.

Ambassador Moyo said government is a product of the party and Finance Minister Biti should be reminded that it is because of the people that he holds such a position.

Ordinary civil servants are earning less than US$200 while ministers who enjoy government benefits such as payment for school fees, free fuel, accommodation and other allowances have had their salaries increased by 200%.
