The City of Harare has been urged to ensure it prioritises availing of work spaces especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) many of which are trading from areas unfit for their operations.
The Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere who was on an assessment of the capital’s road infrastructure as well as service delivery expressed dismay at conditions SMEs operators are contending with.
Minister Kasukuwere said the working environment traders at Glen View home industries are being exposed to, especially as the area was gutted by fire should give the city fathers greater impetus to avail suitable working spaces.
The City of Harare said planning for the development of proper working spaces for the traders is in progress adding that US$3 million is required to put up proper infrastructure for the Glen View home industries.
Availing of proper spaces for SMEs to operate from has gained prominence given their contribution to the country’s economic development.
