The African Union first meeting of the conference of states parties on the protection and assistance of internally displaced persons in Africa has kicked off in Harare with more than 20 countries participating.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Cde Prisca Mupfumira who officially opened the conference says the meeting will among other issues deliberate on the implementation of the Kampala Convention.
UN high commission on refugees representative Mr Cosmas Chanda says over six million people have been displaced in Africa calling for sustainable solutions to the problem in terms of the Kampala Convention.
25 African countries have already signed and ratified the Kampala Convention which is now four years old.
The conference will run from the 3rd to the 5th of this month.
