africanunion.jpgThe African Union Chief, Malawian President Bingu Wa Mutharika, has held talks with Cote d’lvoire’s presidential rivals in another attempt to resolve the country’s political stand-off.

The AU mediator first visited the incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo  and then his opponent Alassane Ouattara.

President Mutharika said he was briefed in detail by the two rivals about the current situation in the country and reiterated that he would pass Gbagbo’s ideas to the African body.

Several rounds of negotiations have already been carried out between Gbagbo and envoys from the AU and the ECOWAS to resolve the political tension, but all have failed.
