Acting President, Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga today visited Kanyemba where he is expected to open 2 000 hectares of irrigable land in Chief Chapoto’s area, Mashonaland Central Province in the near future.
He was accompanied by Ministers Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Joram Gumbo, Simon Khaya Moyo, July Moyo and several senior government officials to see the potential in Mbire where the soils are fertile but there is not much economic activity.
This follows the visit to the area by the First Lady Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa recently.
Acting President Chiwenga said the road from Mahuwe to Kanyemba has to be tarred and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural development is also building a ferry landing port to have easy access into Zambia.
The Transport Ministry has promised to source funds to construct a proper road while Ambassador Khaya Moyo pledged to work on transmission issues while Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said she will introduce command fishing.
Acting President Chiwenga urged government ministers not to forget the traditional lifestyles of the Doma and Wachikunda and called for them to be given opportunities to hunt from time to time.
