A three-day ANOCA Athletes Commission conference began in the capital today with more than 90 delegates from across the African continent attending.

The conference will look into various issues affecting athletes.

In a speech read by Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Principal Director Benson Dube on behalf of Sports Minister Kazembe Kazembe, emphasis was on the importance of the forum in bringing to the fore key issues affecting athletes in Africa.

Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) president Admire Masenda said given the numerous challenges African athletes are confronted with, the forum is an ideal platform to search for solutions that could be critical in addressing the problems.

The ANOCA Athletes Commission is derived from the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Athletes Commission which was founded with the view of giving athletes a platform to be part of key decision making processes.

Zimbabwe swimming icon Kirsty Coventry currently chairs the IOC Athletes Commission.
