The Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs says amendment number one of the constitution is a progressive move aimed at bringing world class justice.

Amendment number one was passed into law through an extra ordinary gazette published last week.

The amendment number one of the 2013 Constitution of Zimbabwe has repealed and replaced section 180 of the constitution.

The new law empowers the President to appoint the chief justice, the deputy chief justice and the judge president.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Mrs Virginia Mabhiza said this amendment has clarified a number of issues among them the position of the labour court and the administrative court.

She said the new law is in line with international best practices.

Harare lawyer Mr Zivanai Makwanya welcomed the new law which he said is progressive.

This development is a testimony that the constitution is not immune to changes.
