More than 170 kids aged between 5 an 18 are gathered in the capital at the Harare Sports Club for the 4th edition of the annual Ambassador’s E-rotary Club  Development tennis tournament.

The tournament which aims to develop tennis talent from an early age continues to grow with each year.

Kids aged between 5 and 18  from all the country’ provinces, including rural areas such as Chiweshe in Mashonaland Central, Masvingo, Bulawayo, Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Harare, including Domboshava, Chitungwiza and Mufakose.

Tournament convener Richmore Murpe said the idea behind the tournament is for the kids to have fun and enjoy the game while learning the basics with flexible rules.

Unlike other ranking tournaments, the Ambassadors tournament aims to develop talent from an early age where kids play with the red-slow balls, orange ball with high bounce using small nets and a shortened court as well the green ball which is slower than the normal yellow ball but using a full court.

Qualified coaches including former Davis Cup players Wayne Black and Gwinyai Tongoona an host of other coaches including Freeman Nyamunokora, Manjoro assist with the coaching an umpiring of matches.

The tournament is hoped will improve both the level of coaching and standard of play in the country ends on Sunday (tomorrow) with a prize-giving ceremony.
