All is now set for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener pitting Zimbabwe and Egypt at Cairo International Stadium tomorrow.
With Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah in their ranks, Egypt has been tipped to go all the way and lift the trophy for an eighth time.
Zimbabwe who go into this match as underdogs, will not be reading much into their opponents following successive draws against Tanzania and fellow finalists Nigeria who, like Egypt, are among the favourites.
Zimbabwe have made it to the competition proper three times, in 2004, 2006 and 2017.
In their maiden appearance at the continental showpiece, the Warriors crashed out at the group stage and in their participation two years ago, Zimbabwe took a point off Algeria in their opening match and then lost to Senegal and Tunisia.
With all this in mind, the Warriors are out there to cause an upset with the likes of skipper Knowledge Musona, Khama Billiat and Marvelous Nakamba among the crop of players expected to steer coach Sunday Chidzambwa’s ship past the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2004.
Zimbabwe qualified for this year’s AFCON edition after topping Group ‘G’ in their qualifiers.
